Our application process is now simpler than ever. Just click the Apply Now button above! Download the application outline (esquema en español) to prepare your application before applying. (One application includes eligibility for all BSF scholarships) Applications open Friday, March 1, 2024 and close Sunday, March 31, 2024. Recipients will be notified by Friday, April 12, 2024.

*Note: If interested in CNA then it is recommended to apply for CHI Health CNA Career Ladder at MCC directly. Letter of recommendation and personal statement required.

AWARD NOTIFICATION and RECOGNITION
Award recipients will be notified on or before April 12, 2024, Scholarship money will be sent directly to the college or university that you’re attending upon receipt of verification of your enrollment. By May 1, 2024, award recipients must provide proof of enrollment at a college or university or scholarship will be revoked. Scholarships are awarded at the Adelante Gala on Thursday, April 25th 2024.
SELECTION PROCESS
A Scholarship Review Committee meets to review and score all applications. Prior to review, copies of each application are made with the applicant's names removed in order to eliminate any bias by members of the committee.
Incomplete applications or applications received after the due date are not considered eligible and are not reviewed/scored.
To be eligible for the Barrientos scholarships, the applicants must not be receiving major financial assistance from other outside sources, such as Pell Grant, Goodrich Scholarship, Susan Thompson Buffett award, or NU Regents Scholarship.
AWARD ACCEPTANCE
On or before April 12, 2024, all winners will be notified via mail that they have been awarded a scholarship. The notification letter will include instructions on how to accept the award. Each winner will be asked to formally accept the award, affirming their intention to enroll in a Nebraska college or university during the Spring/Summer 2024 academic school year.
AWARD DISBURSEMENT
In order to receive the actual monetary award, the student must send us proof that they have enrolled as a full time student at a college or university in Nebraska for the Spring or Summer of 2024. Failure to provide proof of enrollment during the specified time frame will void the scholarship.
Upon receipt of proof of enrollment, a check will be sent directly to the financial aid office of the college or university. Under no circumstances will a check be sent directly to a student. It will be the responsibility of the student to follow up with their financial aid office to verify that the scholarship was applied to their account.
