The Rich History of the Barrientos Family
The Barrientos Scholarship Foundation was established in 2005 in honor of the late, great Barrientos brothers to assist young Latinos in pursuing an education. The Barrientos' migrated from Aguascalientes, Mexico in the late 1920s and eventually worked their way to Omaha, Nebraska where they became widely recognized musicians in the Omaha music (Latino) scene.
It was through their inspiration that future generations of Barrientos family members were (and continue to be) driven to pursue higher education while also recognizing the importance of giving back to their community.
Marcos Mora, grandson of Vidal Barrientos, continues the family tradition focused on a love of the arts. He has been an accomplished musician for over twenty years.
Marcos currently serves the community as Executive Director of the South Omaha Arts Institute which offers instruction in music and dance and is home to several local touring groups.
In 2005, Marcos and cousin Ricardo Hernandez established the Barrientos Scholarship Foundation. Marcos continues to serve as Executive Director of the foundation.
