In 2006, the Barrientos Scholarship Foundation (BSF) awarded six scholarships. We now average fifteen scholarships awarded annually! That's a good
start, but more can be done!
According to the Educational Achievement and the Successful Integration of Latinos in Nebraska study by OLLAS of the University of Nebraska
at Omaha, Latinos made up 8% of the state’s college-age population in 2000, but only 2.4% of students enrolled in higher education were Hispanic.
And in 2003-2004, 73.4% of Hispanic students in the Omaha Public School District qualified for free or reduced-price lunches. There is a need, a
financial need, to give back to our Latino youth.
How can you help us support our mission of providing financial support in the form of academic scholarships to area Latinos?
