Selection, Acceptance, Disbursement

Scholarships winners will be selected by a scholarship review committee.
For students selected to receive scholarships, the following describes the selection, notification, acceptance, recognition, and disbursement steps.

Selection Process
A Scholarship Review Committee meets to review and score all applications. Prior to review, copies of each application are made with the applicant's names and current schools removed in order to eliminate any bias by members of the committee.
Incomplete applications or applications received after the due date are not considered eligible and are not reviewed/scored.
Under normal circumstances, the top three scorers in each of the five categories (Arts, Medical, Education, Business, General) will be awarded scholarships valued at $1000, $750, and $500 depending upon individual score.
With approval from the board of directors, alterations may be made to the normal distribution based upon the circumstances presented. For example, if fewer than three qualified applications are received in one of the categories, an additional award may be made in one of the other categories.
Award Notification
On or before July 31, 2012, all winners will be notified via mail that they have been awarded a scholarship. The notification letter will include instructions on how to accept the award.
Award Acceptance
Each winner will be asked to formally accept the award, affirming their intention to enroll in a Nebraska college or university during the Fall 2012 / Spring 2013 academic school year. Upon acceptance, we will verify that the student, along with their parents as our guests, will be able to attend the annual Latino Heritage Awards Banquet to be recognized for their accomplishment.
Award Disbursement
In order to receive the actual monetary award, the student must send us proof that they have enrolled in a minimum of two classes at a college or university in Nebraska for the in the Fall of 2012 or Spring of 2013. Failure to provide proof of enrollment during that timeframe will void the scholarship.
Upon receipt of proof of enrollment, a check will be sent directly to the financial aid office of the college or university. Under no circumstances will a check be sent directly to a student.
It will be the responsibility of the student to follow up with their financial aid office to verify that the scholarship was applied to their account.
